A New Era for CHANEL? The SS26 Collection at Paris Fashion Week

It’s been a dizzying season of Paris Fashion Week with so many changes at the Creative Director level at so many ateliers and CHANEL was no exception with the appointment of Matthieu Blazy. Blazy unveiled the universe of CHANEL with his debut SS26 — Spring/Summer 2026 — collection for the house and dare we say it, ushering a new era for the brand.
The collection, set within a majestic recreation of the universe with planets floating overhead, opened with menswear looks inspired by pieces worn by Gabrielle Chanel and borrowed from Boy Capel, her significant other. Blazy put a spotlight on shirting, trousers and rolled up sleeves, all further enhancing the masculine vibe.

The collection transitioned into the reimagining of Classic CHANEL pieces through the years — thoughtfully deconstructed and reconstructed, creating new softened interpretations while maintaining the CHANEL essence and clean, simple lines. Drop waists were prevalent in many creations and of course tweed could be found across many looks created with a softer essence and flow.

The collection eventually incorpoated more global looks representative of today’s global CHANEL woman and a freedom, femininity, and fluidity in spirit with moments of grand volume.

Blazy infused not only a freshness into the brand, but also an approachability and an understanding of its place in today’s global market. It was an exciting way to signal a new era for the brand while remaining true to the spirit of Gabrielle Chanel.
